Well, I finally charged the ol' batteries and took pictures of the fuzzy pink bananas so I could share them with you. I also have some other pictures as well.
Close up of those cute little bananas.
Now, here's a moth from the front of my house and a bad picture of a bug I saw at my friend, Tiff's, house. Anyone know what it is? I've never seen one like it before:

I can't say that I ever saw a pink banana before. What kind of origin is it? Thats craziness.
Last spring, my friend Tiff and I went to a lecture at this cool garden/nursery at Weston Gardens. One of the plants he talked about was this banana plant that had bananas that you couldn't eat, but they were pretty fuzzy pink ones. Well, I knew I had to have one. He said that they die back in the winter, but come back in the spring/summer, and sure enough they did - even bigger this year. I need to post a picture of how much they've grown.
Anyway, I don't know the specific name of the banana plant, but it could be some of the following:
Musa ornata - http://www.natureproducts.net/Forest_Products/Bananas/Musa_ornata.html
or
Musa Velutina. ( Velvet Pink Banana ) - http://www.worldwideplants.com/images/musavelutina.JPG
Mine looks more like the Musa ornata then the Velutina, I think.
Okay, looking more on yahoo, I think it is Musa Ornata:

If it is that, then here's the info you were asking about from the UConn site above:
Country of Origin: Bangladesh, Burma, Chittagong Hills of India
I'm pretty sure your right about it being a musa ornata. I did a google search and was reading up on it by various people who have it in thier yard. One person said they ate the bananas when they where ripe. Alot of people say that this plant grows and multiplys like wildfire. A lady said she started out with 1 and in 3 years had 20 of them. I was like whoa! It really is a pretty plant. I also googled the musa ornata images and it looks like we have a confirmation on the species of your plant. It has all the same characteristics as all the other ones I saw on google. I think if I had one I'd plant a whole bunch or purple flowers too. Kinda contrast it or something.
Well, I had a pretty little spider wort plant behind it that has purple flowers, but the bananas got so huge this year you can't see it. I have one plant by it that has little dainty white flowers that I like because the plant is just tall and think and contrasts with the thick/stocky banana plant.
Last year the main plant had one baby, iirc. This year it had three. I dug one up and gave it to Tiff to plant in her yard. I hope to have more next year! Hurray for banana plants! :)
Dear Zee Girly of Callipygiany, this moth looks like a Spitfire from WWII.Just my opinion.Ain't life grand?
Dan from SFRPF.
Dan! Glad you liked the moth. I do think sometimes us humans borrow ideas from nice little creatures - maybe that's where the ol' planes got their looks!
