Keeping Mum and Running with Scissors

I watched these two movies this week. Out of the movies I borrowed from the library my hopes were set on Keeping Mum. Out of all the movies, it was maybe the second best. I actually liked Employee of the Month the best out of all the movies I borrowed, but I enjoyed Keeping Mum as well. It was funny and cute and endearing, but with a surprising ending (for me anyway).

Running with Scissors was a very strange movie. I think the saddest part of this movie for me was that it was based on Augusten Burroughs's personal memoirs. I almost turned off this movie a few times, but I stuck with it. It was kind of like one of those car wrecks you can't look away from.

Overall, I give Keeping Mum a thumbs up!

Lunar Eclipse tonight - red moon!

From: http://lauraszoo2.wordpress.com/2008/02/20/lunar-eclipse/ (Laura's Zoo Up North, with Bears, Moose, and Wolves).

For some reason I was an hour off on this thing. I got to see it at 7:45pm when there was just a bit of the edge being eclipsed. By the time I was done seeing my little man, I got to see the blood red moon. It was very cool. I sat in the back yard for about 20 minutes with Andie and I watched as she whined. I couldn't get a picture, but this blog above got a decent one that I thought I would share here. Also interesting is the story of this eclipse saving Columbus's life way back when.

http://www.farmersalmanac.com/astronomy/a/how-did-an-almanac-save-christopher-columbus

Read the whole story at the Farmer's Almanac above, but here's how it ends:

Just moments before the end of the total phase, Columbus reappeared and announced to the natives that his god had pardoned them and would allow the Moon to gradually return. At that moment, true to Columbus’s word, the Moon slowly began to reappear. As it emerged from the Earth’s shadow, the grateful natives hurried away. From then on, they kept Columbus and his men well supplied and well fed, until a reluctantly sent relief caravel from Hispaniola finally arrived on June 29, 1504. Columbus and his men returned to Spain on Nov. 7.

Employee of the Month

Alright. I watched this one and had very low expectations after the previous unable to watch movie. Employee of the Month was actually a cute little movie. It's not top 5 or top 50 for that matter, but it was cute and charming and clean-ish. I really liked the idea that how we treat our friends really matters. It was also fun to see Jessica Simpson with huge ears. Anyway, this was a fun movie and I give it a thumbs up.

I Think I Love My Wife

I'm not sure why I wanted to see this except that Gina Torres is in it and I love her. She was in Alias and Firefly - both top ten TV shows for me. Anyway, I tried to watch this movie it was just tiresome and offensive and over the top. I turned it off and went to sleep. Two huge fat thumbs down on this one. Bleah!

Definitely, Maybe

I went to see this movie this afternoon. I think, overall, it was a pretty good movie. I think that little girl, Abigail Breslin, is a very good little actress. Now, mind you, she's not as good in this as she was on Little Miss Sunshine, but this is a good movie and Ryan Reynolds was great. I give it a thumbs up.

Along those same lines, I went to the Fort Worth Public Library today and picked up five DVDs. The first one is disc/volume one of Sleeper Cell. The next ones are all movies: I Think I Love My Wife, Employee of the Month, Keeping Mum, and Running with Scissors. I'll be back if any of these are truly outstanding. I think Keeping Mum has the best potential.

Lightning Jesus

Another cool weather picture. This one is from http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=513855&in_page_id=1811.

This is a picture of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is the tallest statue of Jesus and was named as one of the Sevens Wonders of the World.

This gives new meaning to the term "light up baby Jesus"!

valentine paper crafts from Canon

At http://cp.c-ij.com/english/valentine/craft/index.html there are items that you can print out and make for your valentine.

They also have peacocks, dragons, jets, famous buildings, and more here:
http://cp.c-ij.com/english/3D-papercraft/index.html.

I made a tree from this site a couple of Christmases ago. I can't find it now, but it took 25 pages to be printed off and quite a while to build, but it was much fun. I wish I had time to do one of these now!

Another picture from those tornadoes

I saw this photo on a news site or yahoo's photo site and thought it was very interesting. With my fascination with light up baby plastic Jesuses, I thought this fit well.

This photo is surreal.

Jack again

Jack Johnson's new album came out this week, but this is a link to an older video of his ... Sitting, Waiting, Wishing.

The video is so cool. It's shot backwards and not all the words match the mouth, but many do. Also, there are long shots without cuts. I'm not sure how they did it, but it's very cool and fun to watch and the song hits home with me every time.

Here's a project I want to do:

http://www.chrisglass.com/journal/decoupage/

This decoupage experiment from Chris Glass's journal looks like a lot of fun and I already have a unused canvas laying around here somewhere ... oh yeah, I have the mod podge, too.

I'm trying to think if I've ever decoupaged anything ... we did one in girl scouts when I was young (many moons ago). It was of Jesus ... I think my mom still has it. I guess my gluebooks are kind of decoupaged too. Interesting. If I do this I'll post the pictures of it. I know I still need to post the pictures of gluebook number two and when I finish the third one I'll post that as well.

Miracle Baby and more from TN

There's a story from the tornado affected states (TN, AR, KY, MS) from this past week's tragedy. The last count was 56 people were killed from the different tornadoes and storms that hit these states. Here's the link to the story.

This 11 month old baby survived being tossed from his home during one of the tornadoes. They found him in a field about 150 yards from his home. The field had been checked once, but they missed him at first. He was almost missed the second time because they thought he was a doll.

Although this is amazing, there's another part that cracked me up. It was the tale of James Krueger. He was working on a home when the tornado hit. I'll let the story tell itself:

There were countless stories of people relieved to be alive. James Krueger, a 49-year-old electrician, opened the door to look out of the 100-year-old home he was restoring and the wind sucked the door from his hand. He dived onto the ground "as if I was sliding into first." The house was pulled out from under him - and when it was over, he was on bare ground.

"It was like God was holding my leg and beating the (expletive) out of me for everything I've done in my life," said Krueger, of Lafayette. "Maybe I tried to question God too many times, but the bottom line is something kept me there."

It was like God was holding my leg and beating the ... what a perspective! It made me laugh. I'm glad he's okay.

How About Orange? The Blog!

I got this cool desktop wallpaper from the blog "How about orange." It's one of the coolest blogs I've come across so far. The fact that the author of the blog, Jessica Jones, loves orange has nothing to do with it ... or not. ;)

She has great ideas on there about design, decorating, activities (arts, crafts, etc.), and even recipes. Her site is http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/. Check it out and share it with your friends!

This place has all sorts of colors from all sorts of paint companies that you can look up and buy 16 oz. samples from (any color!). Very cool. If I was going to paint something bold, I'd definitely try this out first.
